Covid-19: Brazilian engineer Joaquim Caracas has patented in Brazil and applied for a patent in the United States for his new creation, the reusable plastic mask against the coronavirus. The mask is rigid, made of non-toxic, recyclable transparent material, available in different colors and equipped with filter refills in washable fabric or TNT fabric. 

The creation, manufactured by Impacto Protensão on 3D printers, emerged from a challenge. The Research Support Foundation (Funcap) and the State Health Department of Ceará ordered the production of protective masks against the coronavirus to be distributed to health professionals and, mainly, to engineers and construction workers.

About 7,200 units of the reusable plastic mask against Covid-19 are being produced daily. The product has also become popular with employees of supermarkets and pharmacies as it is easy to clean and practical. It just needs to be washed with soap or alcohol gel to be cleaned and ready to use again.

Creative

Before his most recent creation, Joaquim Caracas was already known for other inventions related to his professional field. The Brazilian engineer has also developed a form of rigid plastic for the use of prestressed concrete. With this material, Caracas designed and built a hotel located in Serra de Guaramiranga (Ceará).

Another curiosity: of the 42 industrial patents that Ceará has registered in Brazil, nine belong to the company from Caracas, which has recently applied for the registration of its first patent in the USA.
